It’s pretty darn thrilling for us to announce the panellists for the second night in our Marbles #3 launch party series: Simon Jay and JRF.
Both are members of the glorious Dive Queer Party family, and it’s an honour to get the chance to chat mental health and the LGBT+ community with them.
Simon is a performer and artist who has written a memoir about growing up gay and living with mental ill health called Bastardography, a witty tale of comedic melancholia and largesse – perfect for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider looking in. He recently successfully Kickstarted his Anti-National Portrait Gallery, which will be an art exhibition showing portraits of well-known and contemporary figures who reject nationalism and embrace all of humanity.
JRF is a familiar figure on the Edinburgh cabaret scene and, as well as being the famed stage bitch of Dive Queer Party, can often be found cranking their handle and providing cool tunes via one or other of their collection of vintage gramophones. Always bejeweled, and the muse of many an artist, their likeness has been hung in the Royal Scottish Academy and they have been filmed and photographed on countless occasions. However, they rose to the dizzy heights of notoriety for their taxidermy skills, and is perhaps best known as the person who constructed hats from roadkill.
They’ll be joining us to talk about the Skeleton Twins, a Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader film that explores love, loss and family. We’re not saying a spontaneous Lip Sync For Your Life situation is going to happen during the famous ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’ scene, but we’re also not NOT saying it’s going to happen. Come along to find out.
