Lou Sanders is breathless, verging on hysteria, but free from shame. With help from her Shame Brain, she talks through her worst moments to explain why there’s no point in dwelling on embarrassing times gone by.
While the show is a whirlwind ride through Sanders’ life – shame at Pontins, shame during sex, shame with her shaman – she notes that shame is at the root of addiction, abuse and self-sabotage. There are certain things she doesn’t want to wear as a label – such as assault survivor or alcoholic – but there’s still no shame in talking about this if and when you need to.
Sanders is self-deprecating and occasionally morbid, but this is a freeing hour about acceptance and self-esteem.
